Cracked Paintings- Style 1

Although the painting itself wont actually be cracked the painting will appear in some way cracked or broken. The style I am looking for is that either the cracks themselves will be one block colour or appear to have something hiding inside them. This could be any medium and subject however I believe this will be best in collage and painting however this could also work well with pencil bot in colour and graphite.

Space for experimentation:

“In every society, there are people who are overlooked, there are people many choose not to see. In a social sense, these people have fallen between the cracks.”

This image I believe is a digital image and is something I have ever had a true experimentation with. I find this image intriguing and what I was hoping to find when deciding on this style, an image hidden in the cracks. There are many different ways I could recreate this image I could do it digitally, painting or even collage and has opened me up to new ideas on how to recreate the artists work and styles. This image at first glance seems normal until you have a closer look and see a building inside the cracks peeking out , however the image is well blende and is hard to see at first. I like this artist and I am blown away by the skill of this artist because of how well this image is made it almost looks as though it is real. I will continue to look into this artist and will recreate this image. This image may also influence my final piece on this style.

This is another style I was looking for when I chose this style. Although is has some similarities to the last art such as a image after the cracks however this time it is a landscape instead of a city scape. The crow is also another difference and adds to the aesthetic and the overall detail of the image. I am unsure on this medium as well however I would guess it is watercolour, digital or watered down acrylic. I would guess these mediums because of the drips and water marks on the art piece. I like this one and have chosen this because I like how the image is split in two one a landscape and the other a portrait. I believe the image and the colours work really well to portray the mood and style of the image. I will hopefully create something in a similar style and I believe this style will also have a big influence on my final piece for this overall style.

Digital Sample
This is a digital version and idea of my final piece that I will be doing for my Cracked painting subject. I have used my research on the research pages for this subject to inform this piece of digital work. I have also used of the researched portrait’s and split/cracked it in half. This is only to inform my art work however and is not the final outcome, I may change things a little when it comes to painting the final image. This image was created by splitting a image and then going over it with a fine liner to make it appear cracked.

Final Piece
For my final piece I only used back and white colours in acrylic paint. I used the digital image and original research to inform this piece. I used both research from the next pages and the artist research and samples from the original to pages of cracked paintings. Although the final art work is very similar to the digital image and experimentation I did however change it a little and add a bit more of my own style. Some of the techniques I used on this final art work was dry brush and watering down paint to create paint drips. I also used lots of different mediums of white to create highlight, such as gel pen, paint and pencil.

Final Piece-Research 1

Final Piece-Research 1
This is my first research page for my cracked painting subject. This is all the portraits I collected to inform both my digital experimentation and my final painting. I have chosen the portrait in the top right in order to inform and work similar to for my final painting, I will also use this image to when doing my digital image. I chose this portrait over the other too images because, the top left although similar to the image I choose is not what I am looking for because thing the hair gets in the way a little when I am only looking for the face and its features. The bottom image is also something I am not looking for, although it will help in informing it won’t be soothing I will work more in the style of. The bottom has too much shadow, which doesn’t allow me to see the face enough to work from. I do however want to put in shadow on my final painting however I am hoping to use a lighter image and make a decision on where I wish to put the shadow instead of being confined to the shadow already on the image. The top right is the one I worked more from only changing it a little for example making I more shadowed and making the eyes bigger in order to make them the main focus.

Originally these images where going to inform my final outcome and digital sample, because I was going to have a landscape between the cracks a little shadowed. However I later decided to change and not put in this landscape, this is because I believed it would take away from the portrait and look a little out of place. Therefor in the long run I have not put this in, however if at a later point in my subjects I decide to put this in it will become good research to inform this.
