DES200 - Integrated Creativity

Task One

The first task was on collaboration and doing research which I found was important because I hadn't looked into collaborations before and had only done one previously with a peer. For this research, I looked into Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel, I chose this pair not only because they were well known but also because I like a lot of Andy Warhol's work. However, I had not researched into Jean yet however, there was plenty of information, and was able to have a good look into his work which I found interesting one of my favorites if found and looked into when doing research was Pez Dispenser which was created in 1984 by Jean which I found I like. the artwork is a dinosaur with a little crown.

A collaboration that interests me in the artwork is the collaboration between Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat which is said to be a “Crazy Art-World Marriage”.

I find particularly interesting because these two are particularly well known in the art world as well as Andy Warhol being an artist I do really like. The collaborations were between the 1980-1986 and made many different artworks over this time one of these is the Olympic Rings which I do really like because of its colour and its overall set out.

The benefit of the collaboration between these two is not only exposure but also the experience they gained from working together. This was especially important for both artists especially at their current age in their art careers. This collaboration helped to give exposure to these artists and led to them having the position they have in the art world today. The working process between these two usually went with Andy going first with paintings and then Jean-Michel going second with his colourful imagery. This is one of the things I really like about his work which is the colour. The Olympic rings were one of their most famous collaborations and art pieces during this time however this was one of a few Olympic rings they did, they did a lot of different trials and experimentation before settling on this is the one for the show. Other benefits of collaborating and this collaboration are teamwork and being able to discuss and talk about the work however artists working alone must judge their own work which can sometimes be hard, especially when spending lots of time on one piece of work with lots of trials and errors. During this time Andy already had a lot of fame and was known in the art world and communities, Basquiat thought this bee an easier step to success in the art world which turned out to be true in this instance however this is not always the case in collaborations in the art community. The outcome and collaboration were overall a big hit in the art community this led to Basquiat’s emotionally paintings and graffiti becoming one of the best known Neo-Expressionist artworks. Overall, the collaboration between these two was important in both their careers and the arting community it also happens to be one of my favourite collaborations because of my like for Andy Warhol's works and Basquiat's colourful works.

Task Two

The skill I have done is on felting. The idea is to make a smiling face however the instructions can be tweaked a little to make happy or sad faces or even different expressions. I enjoyed the making of this skillshare and the felting and I believe is something people will enjoy doing. The idea was to enjoy making something new as well as gaining a new skill, I find felting is all about finding your own little tricks and the best ways for yourself however this is a start and a basic guild on how to make a little smiley face.

The Skill I chose to do is from Ace which is making creatures and characters from random shapes. I started by reading and following the instructions which said to start with shapes in pen, I used pink, green, white, black, blue, purple and red. I create random shapes in these colours and coloured them in I then used a black or white pen depending on the colour to create characters and faces. I really liked this skill and really did enjoy making the little characters it's something to help with ideas should I need them. I will continue to do this for fun now when doodling and doing art.

The fifth task was something I missed originally however was helped by my peer to catch up. The idea for mine was about trees because of my unit running along side this and the idea of respecting nature and using things for art instead of throwing them out. I did like this and reminding myself how to use the printing machine. For example how to change the colours and use the two images to make one. The writing was done on tracing paper and was printed in blue onto of the tree that I printed in green to represent the nature.

Task Six

The final task and the one I most enjoyed doing was making a book. This collaboration was with Me, Sarah, Beth, Chantelle, and Briony this group worked really well together and shared ideas, overall very enjoyable to work with, and even gain skills from such as digital skills. The idea for this book was about our favorite dates past, present and future dates. This concept in my opinion works really well, for our favorite dates each person contributed 3 dates, for my dates I chose my parent's birthdays and and upcoming family holidays. For my images, I decide to go with a theme throughout using star signs. The one thing I really enjoyed was seeing the final outcome and it all together in a book as well as making the images for the pages. The image to the left is the original Proposal and the idea we worked from when finalising and gathering all the images and writing, there are a few changes from the proposal however the proposal is very accrete to the outcome made in the end.
